Saturday PhotoHunt - 'Celebrate'

So today's Saturday PhotoHunt theme is 'Celebrate'!

So I thought I would edit a random picture of Willow and add in some fireworks (and 3D glasses, for reasons unknown to myself..)

I hope everyone is having a great start to 2013, and is CELEBRATING the start of the new year.

Sorry I haven't posted much this week - I have been so busy!
Will try to post more often this week!

How to make your very own Christmas hamster jigsaw puzzle

Today I am going to tell you how to make a Christmas hamster jigsaw!
There are 7 steps, and I would say it is pretty simple, though if you are under 10 you may want an adults help cutting the jigsaw out, as that part can be pretty tricky.

You will need:

1 x sheet of cardboard
1 x photo or picture (A Christmas hamster perhaps?)
1 x scalpel or craft knife
1 x cutting board/protective surface
1 x glue stick (the bigger, the better)
1 x 30cm ruler or rule
1 x roll of book film
1 x pencil

If you don’t have a craft knife/scalpel, you can use scissors, but with more difficulty.

Click read more to get the instructions!

Christmas Presents for Hamster-Lovers

I was having a look for some cool, hamster-related Christmas presents a while ago, and I found this great hamster top!
(I have actually asked for it for Christmas)

I love the design, and the hamster is so cute! It is $24.00 / £15.50 not inc. P&P, and it is from 'bubbledog' on Etsy, and they have a whole set of hamster-themed things you can get, including stationary, badges, clothes - you name it!

I have picked out a few of my favourites to share with you on my blog, but if you want to have a look at more hamstery things, then visit their hamster-themed section of their shop!

The Hamster Pillows are $16.00 / ~£10.50 each.
The Hamster Badges (Set of 9) are $8.00 / ~£5.59.
The Hamster Stationary Set is $9.00 / ~£6.00.

Hope you like this post! I love this Etsy store, so I thought I would share it :)

Wordless Wednesday #7

Had a little fun messing about with editing stuff - and yes, I do realize that the pictures look pretty rubbish, but never mind. I had fun and I thought they were something different.

Have a great Wednesday!

(It is the 12/12/12 today, and we all celebrated at 12:12:12! This is the last time it will happen in 100 years though...)

What is a Syrian hamster?

A Syrian hamster is a solitary burrowing rodent with characteristics of a short tail and large cheek pouches (though when their cheek pouches are empty you can’t tell that they are large). The cheek pouches are for carrying food to their burrows.

Hamsters are native to Europe and northern Asia, though are now common pet’s in many countries, for both young and old.

Syrian hamsters can come in many different colours.
They can be black, grey, brown, white, ginger, golden, blond, or a mix of a few different colours. (For example, Willow is a mix of brown and white).

Hamsters can be long or short haired. If you choose a long haired Syrian, you should by a small pet brush to stop your hamster’s coat getting matted. If one parent is long haired and the other short haired it is a good idea to get a small brush anyway, although the hamster is likely to just be quite fluffy rather than have really long hair.

Hope this is helpful to clarify a bit about Syrian hamsters, though I'm sure most of you already know what a Syrian hamster is!

I have received my giveaway prize!

I got my giveaway prize from Pawsitivly Pets! Yay!
(I actually got my prize last Thursday, but I just haven't posted this until now - I've been so busy!)

I was so pleased with the way it came out - The painting looks just like Willow, don't you think?
I was so excited when I got up and there was a package lying on the floor by our letterbox!

Carla had made sure it didn't get broken or damaged by putting it in a padded envelope and slotting the portrait between two cardboard sheets. Everything was perfect! Thank you so much Carla!

I really want to recommend her artwork because, as you can see, it is truly amazing!
Her shop is called Carla's Creatures, and I recommend you visit either her website or etsy store!

Before                                          After

She even sent me a business card! :)
I also (obviously) want to thank Ann from Pawsitivly Pets for doing this amazing giveaway!
I would never have got this without her, so thank you so much Ann!

Thank you both so much, and I hope you like this post!

I won a giveaway!

I WON A GIVEAWAY!!! I WON A GIVEAWAY!!! I WON A GIVEAWAY!!! YAY! YAY! YAY!

Last week Ann Paws ran a giveaway on her blog, Pawsitively Pets.

The prize was a portrait of your pet! How cool and personal is that? - I think it's a great prize because anyone who has a pet would love that!

The custom portrait of your pet will be drawn by a great artist called Carla Smale. Her artwork is truly amazing! Some of her artwork is below: If you want to have a look at her artwork, you can visit her etsy store or her website.

There were loads of entries and I am always really unlucky, so I definitely did not expect to win! When I found out I was so excited!! :D

I got in contact with Carla, and she said she would prefer a head shot as it is only a small portrait, and doing her whole body on that would probably prove quite tricky!

So I had a look, and this is the picture I came up with:

What do you think? Do you think that's a nice photo, or do you think I should chose another one like the one below?

I just can't decide and I want to make sure I chose the perfect photo! - So please tell me what you think so I can email Carla and tell her which photo I have chosen!
Thank you so much to Ann and Carla!! I can't wait to receive my prize and I love Ann's blog - she has such great posts (one every day) and the giveaway was great. :)

If you don't already read Ann's blog, be sure to check it out! You won't regret it!

Giveaway coming soon...

My blog currently has 9,855 pageviews since it started,
and soon it will hit 10,000 page views......YAY! :)

I have decided to celebrate the 10,000 page views with a giveaway, so keep an eye on this blog for some cool prizes coming soon.

Quick snap of Willow in her little nest
Willow is doing well, and has now built a cool nest as you can see above.
She loves her exercise wheel too, though I haven't managed to get a good picture yet, as my camera blurs when she runs in the wheel...
Will try to get a photo sometime soon though...

Hamster drawing with Halo for Lolly

I drew a hamster a few days before Lolly died, but after that I completely forgot about it.

I found it then added a halo to its head to represent Lolly, though the hamster I drew isn't supposed to be Lolly, she is a different colour.

Still, here is the little drawing I did (I drew the hamster but not the halo).

It is dedicated to Lolly.
Hope you like it and feel free to comment below.

If anyone wants to know the software used to draw it, I used a bamboo pad and used 'artrage studio' (which comes with the tablet) to draw it.

Also, please remember to vote on my poll on the right hand side bar if you haven't already!

Hope you like it!

M for Marriage

Day #13 of the A-Z Challenge

Well today I was planning on a quick hammy the hamster cartoon; and, seeing as I couldn't think of anything better, I chose to base this cartoon on marriage. ;)

To give some information about hamsters, they can actually become heavily dependent on their mating pair in some breeds.
Unfortunately this means that if one of the mating pair dies, the other hamster could stop eating because they are in so much pain and grief.
Some people think that hamsters are just animals, and they don't have feelings, but I think differently.

Meet my new virtual hamster, Hammy!
Un-edited hamster picture originally from 'Fotosearch'

As you have already seen from my 'D' post, I am going to be doing cut and paste hamster art on this blog to add a bit of fun and variety.

Hope you like them all! :)
